Chopta Valley : Mini-Switzerland
Chopta is an unspoiled natural meadow lying in the lap of the Kedarkhand Region of Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. Located at an elevation starting from 2,709 meters AMSL to 3900 meters AMSL, it offers spectacular views of the mighty Himalayan range including Kedardome, Meru, Sumeru, Ganesh Parwat, Chaukhamba, Bandarpunch, Nilkantha, Tirsuli, Nanda Devi and many more. Chopta meadow is surrounded by forests of pine, cedar (deodar) and rhododendron (Buransh) and is rich in flora and fauna. It is home to some of rare species of birds, leopard, musk deer etc. It is a protected wild life sanctury (Kedarnath Wild Life Sanctury) and one of best place for Bird Watching, Wild lIfe watching and Photography.
It is famous for pilgrimage of 4th Kedar, Shri Tungnath Temple (The Highest Bhagwan Shiva Temple in the World- 3690 meter AMSL) which remains open for only six months strating from May-Novermber. One can explore nearby area of Chopta for different places of spritual/religious importance that includes but not limited to
1. Shri Aumkareshwar Temple (Winter Seat of Bhagwan Shri Har Kedarnath), Ukhimath
2. Shri Vishwanath Temple, Guptkashi
3. Shri Mata Kali Temple & Kalishila, Kalimath
4. Shri Triyuginaryana Temple (the wedding point of Shri Mata Parvati and Bhagwan Shri Har Mahadeva), Triyuginarayan Village

Chopta is also a popular holidays destination during the winter months due to the snowfall that the area experiences. Shri Tungnath temple and Chandrashila are covered with snow from December to March and the temperature is between a minimum of -15 °C and a maximum of 15 °C. Summer/Monsoon time in Chopta does not offer clear view of Himalayas due to smokey/cloudy weather from May to August.
It is best place for young, adventure seeker, mountain lover, wildlife explorer and spritual family full of energy.
